About Carlo

Carlo Valte is a New York-based multi-instrumentalist, educator, and early music specialist whose artistry spans classical guitar, the oud, jazz guitar arranging, and hand percussion. He holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Music in Performance from Mannes College of Music, where he studied classical guitar with Frederic Hand and jazz guitar and arranging with Howard Morgen. His deep fascination with Medieval and Near Eastern music led him to study the oud under two legendary masters: Simon Shaheen in New York City and Nasser Houari in Rabat, Morocco.

As a performer, Valte has graced some of the most prestigious stages in the world, including Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center's Out of Doors series, L'Auditori de Barcelona, Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, and the United Nations. He is a core member of the acclaimed early music ensemble ALBA Consort — which bridges Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque traditions from the Mediterranean and Middle East — alongside mezzo-soprano Margo Andrea, lutenist Jason Priset, and percussionist Rex Benincasa. The Chicago Classical Review specifically singled out his “rhapsodic oud solo” as a concert highlight. He also performs with ensembles Liminal Dotti, Sendebar, Adufera, and Hesperus, including their live-music-with-silent-film project The Golem.

As an educator, Valte has been on the faculty of Mannes College of Music's Preparatory Division since 1996, teaching Techniques of Music, ear training, theory, harmony, and instrumental instruction in classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, and hand percussion. He has led masterclasses and workshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Queens College (CUNY), Northern Illinois University, and countless public and independent schools across New York, New Jersey, and Spain. His recordings appear on Vienna Modern Masters, NY Collegium, and One Soul Records.
